Taizse Johnson is a 6’2” 290-pound Defensive Tackle in the 2021 recruiting cycle. The St. John’s College High School product from Washington D.C. is starting to gain traction on the recruiting trail. As a sophomore, Taizse still has time to grow into his frame, fill out his body, and become a major steal in the 2021 recruiting class. Johnson, who put up solid numbers this past season, is credited with 64 tackles, 5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 12 tackles for loss, and 2 blocked field goals. He is currently unranked as the 2021 rankings have yet to be released, but it would not be shocking to see his ranks soar toward the top.
Taizse’s film shows a great first step, powerful explosiveness, the ability to shed off multiple blockers to find the running back. He also has the ability to get to the quarterback, affect his pocket, and potentially even drop him to the ground. For a guy of his stature, it is easy to see why he is having some early buzz in the recruiting process. Now that his recruitment is picking up, Mr. Johnson currently holds offers from the LSU Tigers, Texas A&M, Temple, Syracuse, Massachusetts, and the Tennessee Volunteers. If Taizse can continue being effective using his size, strength, and relentless motor, you can assure more big offers are on the way.
The All Vol Call in Show was able to obtain the following interview with Mr. Johnson. Taizse Johnson’s sophomore season highlights are available at the link below:
Here is the interview the AVCIS was able to get with Mr. Johnson:
AVCIS – What are you looking for the most in a school?
Taizse – “Well in any school I am looking for an opportunity at playing time early and a considerable distance away from Washington D.C.”
AVCIS – What schools are currently pursuing you and are in communication and how is your communication with Tennessee?
Taizse – “Currently I am not being heavily recruited due to my age and still have a couple of high school years left to continue to grow and develop. The schools that have offered are still in communication with me and checking up on me but not too heavily at the moment.”
AVCIS – As far as conferences go, do any conferences hold weight over others, or does the early playing time really factor in more than the conference?
Taizse – “While looking to play Defensive Tackle and seeing some of the best come out of the SEC, I would say that the SEC definitely holds some weight in recruiting but would not be the deciding factor.”
AVCIS – What programs are you leaning towards and which programs are you trying to set up visits with?
Taizse – "I am leaning towards any SEC program right now just because of the coaching and the talent they have put into the NFL speaks volumes. I am looking to take visits to Tennessee and Texas A&M right now but there is still a lot of time left in my recruiting.
AVCIS – What do you find most intriguing about the Tennessee Volunteers and Texas A&M as they are currently the top programs you plan on visiting?
Taizse – “The history of each program is one of the things I admire most about the Vols and Texas A&M.”
AVCIS – Last question and the one everyone wants to know; do you currently have a leader in mind?
Taizse – “There is no clear-cut leader as of now.”
