"All of the family on my dad's side is from Memphis, so naturally they're all Tennessee fans. He joined the Army when he was 18 and got sent down to Georgia. I was born into Tennessee fandom. I felt like I was the only Tennessee fan in south Georgia.
As I've grown over the years, I've been heckled a lot. Tennessee had it's decade of dysfunction, but weirdly, it seemed like Georgia fans had a little bit of sympathy for us, if you can believe that. They've had their own dysfunctional times. Maybe it was just my friends that were like that, but they seemed to still understand that Tennessee was a good team just going through a rough patch. My oldest sister even married a Georgia fan.
One of my fondest memories comes from the 2016 Tennessee-Georgia game. I was in Philadelphia for work. I was working and I couldn't check my phone at all. The last thing I had seen was that Georgia had scored to take the lead with just a few seconds left in the game. I assumed that we lost and gave up on it.
I got back to the hotel, showered, and went to get something to eat. The place where I went to eat had highlights from the game playing on television. Everyone in Philadelphia knew that I was a Tennessee fan, because I was hollerin'. My brother-in-law still hates to hear me talk about it to this day.
I really feel like we may be living the best generation of Tennessee athletics in history right now. I know the school has had success throughout its history, but under Danny White, I feel like we're just getting started. He is the best athletic director in my lifetime. I truly believe that the Tennessee baseball team's national title won't be the last one under White."
